Some journeys take you across the world. The best ones bring you
back to yourself.

Here, personal growth isn't something you only talk about. It becomes part of everyday life.

This isn't a retreat where you are served. You come willing to contribute, to listen, to be open and to grow. The rest we create together.

Morning yoga at The Mindfulness Project
The Mindfulness Project community visiting a Buddhist monastery

We spend the day at a Buddhist monastery — practicing meditation, learning from the monks and experiencing another way of living.

Create something that matters.

Around five hours each day, we come together to work on the land and contribute to the communities around us.

What we do changes with the season and with what is needed — from building with earth, growing and preparing food, and planting trees to caring for animals and supporting local projects.

CONNECT With the community

And sometimes you'll find yourself cooking for everyone, repairing something, preparing an event or simply helping wherever the project needs you most.

Don’t take our word for it.

Thousands of people from around the world have shared life with us. Here are a few of their stories.

Janne from the Netherlands
“

I came for a few weeks
and stayed for two years!

There is so much self-love, love for others, mindfulness, hard work from the soul and true gratitude throughout this project that it is impossible not to be forever changed.

Janne · Netherlands
Fred-Alex from the USA
“

Probably the best human
experience of my life!

Surprisingly, in the simplest of circumstances, it was the most peaceful and happiest I’ve ever really been. The project changed the way I think about life, myself and other people.

Fred-Alex · USA
Henri from Germany
“

One of the most transformative
experiences of my life.

Every day was a brand new experience — community, work, meditation, yoga, amazing food, dancing and connecting with local people. You will work, sweat, dance and may even cry. But in the end, you’ll have the biggest, stupidest smile on your face.

Everything you might
want to know.

Life here is simple — but coming to the other side of the world can raise a few questions. Here are the answers to the ones we hear most often.

We try to bring mindfulness into everything we do. To support this practice, we keep noble silence in the mornings until after breakfast.

After that, quite the opposite — we love talking, laughing, sharing and having fun together.

Absolutely. Couples are very welcome. You can share your experience here while still becoming part of the larger community.

Intentionally, no. We try our best to live in the present moment and connect with the people around us rather than spending our time online.

But don't worry — there is good mobile reception at the project. If you need internet, get a Thai SIM or eSIM. For our location we recommend DTAC; for travelling around Thailand, AIS generally has very good coverage.

And of course, there are usually plenty of interesting people around to talk to instead.

Our food is vegan, with eggs offered separately at breakfast. We can accommodate most food intolerances.

Please let us know about allergies or dietary requirements when you arrive during the introduction.

Most work-exchange platforms are based on a simple idea: around five hours of help in exchange for food and accommodation. And that exchange happens here too.

The 450 THB daily contribution is for everything we offer on top of that.

Every day you can take part in yoga, guided meditation, talking circles and teachings on subjects ranging from Buddhism, neuroscience and psychology to communication, sustainability and different approaches to personal development.

Once a week, we also spend a day at a Buddhist monastery, giving you a rare opportunity to experience Thai Buddhist culture and practice from the inside.

Altogether, this can add several hours of facilitated practice, teaching and personal development to your day. For all of this, we ask for a contribution of just 450 THB per day.

The contribution also helps us sustain the Mindfulness Project as a nonprofit learning center and continue our work on the land and in the local community.

Can I simply skip yoga and meditation and not pay the contribution?
No. The learning program is an essential part of the Mindfulness Project experience. We are not simply a place to exchange work for a bed — living, learning, practicing and contributing together is what the project is about.

Because community takes time. Ten days is the minimum we have found that allows people to arrive, settle in, connect with the group and experience the different parts of life here — including our monastery day.

Shorter stays also mean constant arrivals and departures, which changes the experience for everyone. That's why we don't make exceptions to the 10-day minimum.

Unfortunately, no. Your entire stay needs to be available in our booking calendar.

Even if just one day in the middle of your stay is fully booked, we cannot accept the booking — also not if you would be happy to spend that night somewhere else.

Our community works as a group, and our capacity is limited not only by sleeping space, but also by our kitchen, facilities, yoga and meditation spaces, teachings and the size of the group we can meaningfully support.

Please choose arrival and departure dates for which every day of your stay is available.

We provide tents, mattresses, pillows, blankets, yoga mats and meditation cushions.

Please bring:

  • Comfortable clothes that can get dirty
  • A sun hat and sun protection
  • Clothes covering shoulders and knees for monastery and village visits
  • Swimming clothes
  • Natural mosquito repellent and toiletries
  • Light warm layers during the cool season
  • A flashlight or headlamp

A Thai SIM or eSIM and a journal for notes and reflections are also useful.

First make your way to Loei city in Northeastern Thailand, either to Loei Airport or Loei Bus Terminal.

From the airport or bus terminal, Anja or our Thai friend Natty can pick you up and bring you to the project for a small fee.

Please arrange your pickup with us in advance and, if possible, plan to arrive in Loei before 5 PM.
